To sail a square-sailed ship is a very different experience from sailing a modern boat. So to become shipmaster on a Viking ship certified to take passengers on board is a rather demanding process. Broad, maritime experience is a requirement, as is a coastal masters certificate and comprehensive training on board a Viking ship under the watchful eyes of a certified Viking shipmaster.
The three new shipmaster fulfil all these requirements. Adam Bailey and Håvard Mogan Enerud both have a background as maritime navigators, while Rolf Krohg Sørensen has a lifetime´s experience with sailing boats. All three have in addition received comprehensive training on board our Viking ships.
The final approvals of the three were made by the Shipmasters´ Board. They will receive their honours during a crew-gathering event on November 12th. Congratulations!
