THE GOKSTAD COIN IS HERE!

The exclusive Gokstad Coin will soon be available for purchase at our construction sites in Sandefjord and Tønsberg. All proceeds go directly toward the building of a new Gokstad ship.

The coin comes in two editions: silver-plated (NOK 500) and gold-plated (NOK 1,000). Each coin is presented in an elegant folder that tells the story of the original ship, the first replica VIKING (built in Sandefjord in 1893), and the world’s most widely traveled Viking ship, GAIA.

It also includes information about SAGA GOKSTAD, currently under construction through a unique collaboration between Sandefjord and Tønsberg. For the first time, an archaeological replica of the Gokstad ship is being built, based on extensive research in cooperation with the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo and the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. The construction uses tools and methods from the Viking Age.

The front of the coin features the elegant prow of the Gokstad ship, while the back shows side profiles of Vestfold’s three original Viking ships: GOKSTAD, OSEBERG, and KLÅSTAD. The latter two have already been replicated by the Oseberg Viking Heritage Foundation, while the Gokstad ship is now under construction.

“Many people like to support our work in showcasing Vestfold’s unique Viking heritage,” says Knut Børge Knutsen, board member and kiosk manager at Vikingodden. “Now we can offer something tangible in return. The coin and its folder will serve as a lasting memento and souvenir — or even a special gift.”

Børge adds that the coins will soon be available for sale both at Vikingodden in Tønsberg and in Sandefjord’s Viking Park.
