It is likely from somewhere between the years 500 and 1000, though it could be even older.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Te<\/strong><em>xt and Photos: Espen J\u00f8rgensen<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The burial cairn at Karlsvika, near T\u00f8nsberg, is situated on a high, prominent spot and is visible from the sea. Perhaps a local chieftain or another prominent figure was buried here between 1,000 and 1,500 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cairn was restored by Vestfold County Municipality in 1995, when displaced stones were retrieved and placed back in position. Previously, there was an informational sign at the site, but unfortunately, it is no longer there. A more durable sign would be a welcome addition.
